CMBHC Call to Action Meeting Concerning the Preservation of the Historic Excelsior Club

CHARLOTTE, NC, November 7, 2018 –Established in 2004, The mission of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Black Heritage Committee (CMBHC) a 501c3 organization, is to facilitate, collaborate, promote, and support the identification, collection, documentation and dissemination of this region’s African American History.  We seek to preserve and present with honor African American history and culture, with primary focus on the city of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County prior to urban renewal. Our vision is to ensure the preservation and inclusion of African American Heritage and Culture as an integral part of United States and World Heritage.

Recently the CMBHC received information about the proposed demolition of a Charlotte and Mecklenburg County’s historical landmark property, the Excelsior Club on Beatties Ford Road. This property served the Charlotte Mecklenburg community as a significant cultural centerpiece for the African American community for over 50 years and contributed greatly to our livelihood, heritage, and growth.

In recognizing the importance of this historical landmark to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Committee, the CMBHC will hold a Call to Action meeting on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 7pm at Rameses Temple, 4919 Beatties Ford Rd, Charlotte, NC 28216.

We support saving, restoring, and preserving the Excelsior Club as a historical landmark in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. This meeting is to bring together All interested parties to discuss and come up with a plan of action that will be acceptable to move forward in saving this landmark from demolition. This meeting will set forth the plan of action that will be viable, sustainable, and obtainable for preservation for the African American community and all interested parties.
